Girl Hair Accessories
I am a mommy of 3 girls ages 5, almost 3 and 5 months, so little girl hair accessories are quite important in our house! I am a pediatric nurse and enjoy working outside the house but as the kids get older I have found it increasingly hard to work much during the week due to carpooling to school etc. So, I had been looking for something to supplement our income. When I started making the bows they turned out so cute, friends and family wanted to buy them. Thus, The Polka Dot Crab was born.
The name, "The Polka Dot Crab" came about in several ways. I was born and raised in Maryland, home of the blue crab so I liked having a name related to where I lived. Also, 1 of my favorite ribbon that I found was a reversible Hot Pink/Lime Green crab print. And finally, I just love polka dots, a lot of my bows have polka dots! So, with the help of my husband and neighbor, we designed the Hot Pink, Polka Dotted Crab with a little bow in her hair.
The biggest problem with bows and clips that you buy, besides the expense, is that they never stay in the girls' hair, either because they are too big and heavy or because the hair is so fine. So, I started making these bows and added a "no slip grip" which really works!
Also, I just started making baby clips after the birth of my 3rd girl. She has very little hair but for pictures I wanted her to match her big sisters. I was actually surprised when these clips stayed in her hair. The baby clips are made with a 30mm rectangular snap clip which I cover with a satin/felt padding. The felt on the inside works as a "no slip grip". It is important to me to make a high quality, yet not so expensive product, so if I wouldn't put the clip or headband in my daughters' hair I wouldn't sell it to you.
